American Expeditionary Force

Phelps R. Holman died at Brest, from heart trouble, according to a cablegram sent to Salt Lake City, and printed here May 28, 1919. Lieut. Holman was assigned to the 8th infantry at the opening of the war, and was on duty at Brest when he died.

318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division

Gray was killed during the 318th attack against the defensive positions of the Germans on the west bank of the Seille River near Manoncourt (France) on October 8, 1944.

James W. Gilbert, Jr. (World War II)

James W. Gilbert, Jr.
Class of 1943
276th Regiment, 70th Division

Gilbert entered the Army, attended Officers Candidate School and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. After nine months as an AST (Army Specialized Training) instructor at PMC, e was assigned to the 276th Regiment. Gilbert was wounded in action in Germany. Before he could be evacuated the Germans launched a counter attack driving the Americans back. At that time Gilbert was listed as missing

1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) USARV

Killed during the Battle of ia Drang Valley while attending to a wounded soldier.

2nd Lt. Robert S Frutchey died due to Injuries received in a jeep accident at Fort Hood, Texas.

Russell A. Freas Jr. (World War II)

Class of 1941
1st Battalion, 423rd Infantry, 106th Infantry Division

Captured by the Germans during at the start of the Battle of the Bulge, he was transported to Stalag 9-B. He was later executed while trying to escape.

Assistant Artillery Officer 15th Army Group

LTC Faust was killed in an air crash when an Army transport plane crashed upon taking off from an Italian airfield

Elliott Durand (World War I)

American Expeditionary Force

While returning from a mission on September 14, 1918 over enemy lines, Durand and his pilot, Lt J J Goodfellow of San Angelo Texas, were attacked by five German Fokker fighters. Two were downed but the others brought the Americans down.
